This may be one of my last big harvests of the season! Today’s yield from the garden includes a plethora of vibrant carrots, three heads of crisp cabbage, succulent tomatoes, refreshing mint, nutrient-rich broccoli, and the sweet watermelon. As I survey the array of vegetables before me, I’m reminded of the ongoing abundance still sprouting in the garden—carrots, kale, broccoli, spinach, lettuce, melon, radishes, herbs, and sweet potatoes—all thriving under the careful watch of an imperfect yet dedicated urban gardener.
Documenting this precious harvest serves as a testament to the journey I’ve undertaken. The imperfections of my gardening endeavors are a source of pride, as learning process is a sacred practice. I extend my gratitude to the mentors who have illuminated my path, with a special acknowledgment to my best friend Leah Penniman and the entire Soul Fire Farm community, whose guidance, inspiration, and encouragement have fueled my growth.
Learning the art of cultivating and preparing delicious plant-based whole foods has not only changed the trajectory of my life but also evolved into a sacred decolonization practice. Today marks the commencement of a new educational journey in this realm of life, and I eagerly anticipate sharing the wealth of knowledge with my community. As the seasons transition, so does the garden, and in these final harvests, I find solace and fulfillment, knowing that the seeds of sustainability and nourishment planted here will continue to flourish in the lives of my children and the wider community.
